Sedationist

MBChB (Pretoria, SA), PDD Sedation (Stellenbosch, SA)

After qualifying as a doctor in South Africa, I came to live and work in the UK in 2003. I have been a full time sedationist since 2005, using advanced sedation techniques in both adults and children for dental and medical procedures.

Training and background

I qualified as a medical doctor in South Africa in 2001 and worked in many specialities, but favouring anaesthetics until moving to the UK in 2003. This gave me a broad basis to build from and in 2008 I completed a post-graduate diploma in advanced sedation techniques.

Under the direct tutelage and supervision of Prof James Roelofse, former visiting professor at U.C.L and one of the leading world specialists in sedation, I manage to gain extensive experience in treating children using intravenous advanced sedation. This has allowed me to help build a safe and successful paediatric sedation team at Toothbeary where I have been the sole sedationist since 2011.

Areas of speciality/knowledge/skills

I specialise in providing advanced intravenous sedation for dentistry in young children, but also for adult patients. I also work closely with a leading plastic surgeon in London where we use advanced sedation for many different surgical procedures.

Outside of work

I am married and have 3 young boys. We enjoy spending time outdoors, and as a South African expat, I enjoy a good barbecue with friends, rain or shine. I also completed my first marathon earlier in 2022 and will be taking part in more in the future.
