professional preventive programme
The aim of our practice is, rather than repairing damaged teeth, hindering caries from ever occuring! That's why we have developed a professional and custom-made preventive programme. Our specially trained hygienists or preventive-assistants treat the children with patience and in reference with age accordingly. It is important that the children are motivated to continue what they have learnt at the practice to improve their oral-hygiene habits at home. The children are told that it is their responsibility to take care of their teeth - which it most definitely is; at the same time the parents are responsible for carrying through with the oral hygiene supervision and support. Many children know how to brush, it's just not the most important thing on their list of wonderful things to do right now.
our professional preventive programme comprises:
- The cause of caries and what beginning caries looks like.
- Showing how dangerous dental plaque is.
- Intensive cleaning and polishing of teeth.
- Hardening of enamel by applying fluoride varnish or gel.
- Practical exercises with the tooth-brush:
- Presentation of the latest and time-saving oral-hygiene products.
- Presentation of teeth-brushing technique according to the child's age.
- Advice on the use of dental floss.
- Explanation about the wonder of fluoride. - Dietary advice to help minimise the caries risks.
- Special investigations to help identify caries-risk patients:
- Condition of the teeth
- Analysis of the diet and drink habits.
- Scrutinising the child's oral care
- Opinion on hereditary condition
- Diagnostic salivary tests - Introduction of specialised therapy (e.g. saliva stimulation test).
